It's a meal

Yesterday, I kicked it back to middle school for the husband when I served him sloppy joes and potato chips for supper. I'm sure my peers will remember Manwiches. And yes, the cans of sauce can still be found on the shelves of our local HEB.

Nursery Run

This year we kicked off the long Easter weekend with a trip to our local nursery for some plants. I've got our yard guy coming to mow on Tuesday. Praise Jesus for the recent rains to get the fertilizer soaked into the ground! So I knew I had to get the husband with his truck over to my favorite local plant store to get some replacements for things lost during last year's drought, plus a couple new things for spots we've been slow to address. We purchased this home over two years ago and it continues to be a work in progress.

The fountain grass seen in the above pic has the coolest name - Cherry Sparkler. I've been debating for almost 9 months what I needed to plant at the front entry, right outside the gate. I already had some well established boxwoods in there, but I needed something different to place in front of it. I love the subtle pink that runs through this plant and can't wait to see how the finished product looks.

Easter 2019

Easter is really late this year, so my decorative bunnies have had a nice long stay in the house since early March.

I decided to order some Easter themed decorated cookies for all of the sweet ladies in my BSF (Bible study fellowship) class to share with them this week. I'm a newbie to the program this year and these amazing Christian ladies have been such a blessing to me. I've learned so much from the sharing we do and always feel so encouraged by our weekly small group gathering after lecture. I'm already starting to feel a bit sad that the current study will end on May 9. If you have a yearning to delve deeper into the stories and truths of God's word - the Bible - in a caring and supportive environment, I highly recommend BSF. This year has been a revelation to me and I'm already looking forward to kicking off the new study of Acts in September.

Happily Ever After

This past weekend, our grad school daughter flew in from North Carolina to be a bridesmaid in her sorority sister's wedding. Poor thing... the weather was really crummy all day, with bands of thunderstorms moving through the DFW area. Although the outside ceremony had to be moved indoors, it was a really pretty space for both the vows and reception.

Here is my poor quality, fuzzy because it's an action shot of my daughter, another bridesmaid and groomsman walking in for the ceremony.

The event space was a barn, so the theme was country rustic chic.

The barbecue meal was really good. Plus we enjoyed their nacho bar during the cocktail hour. And the cakes... OMG, they were delicious! Dessert hound that I am, that's always the most exciting part of any wedding for me.

I liked how the bride handled the bridesmaids dresses, where the girls had something like 25 dress styles to choose from. The only thing dictated to them was color. Their hair, makeup and accessories were personal choice. Maybe this is something all of the younger millennial are doing these days. Congratulations and best wishes to the newlyweds, Katie and Davis!

Anticipation

We're not even halfway through April, haven't celebrated Easter yet, and the high today was 95. I roamed around running all of my errands and going to an appointment in shorts, t-shirt and sandals. I loathe summer and its oppressive heat with the same intensity that I adore fall and winter. I'm already counting down the days until I start house hunting for a second/retirement home in a couple different states. Top of my list is a lake in the Nantahala Forest of North Carolina. We're staying at an old historic inn built by a Savannah socialite and her husband in the early 1900s.

At about 3000' elevation, I'm dreaming of cooler summer temps and time spent cruising the lake with good friends.

Fall foliage in the mountains? Sign me up!

Hail to the chief

Friday evening, the husband and I attended a dinner honoring past/present military service members here in Military City. This is done in conjunction with the local PGA tournament. We were fortunate enough to hear Bush 43 speak at the dinner, as well as the honor of sitting at the same table with him.

He had a self-deprecating sense of humor, poking fun at himself and sharing humorous anecdotes about his time in office. We enjoyed getting to hear his recounting of 9/11, how he got into painting thanks to Winston Churchill, and our current rather tempestuous political climate. We weren't allowed to take cell phone pics, so here is our official pic with 43.
