On Thursday, I took my mother and older daughter to see the remake of Jane Austen's Emma. We enjoyed butter smothered popcorn while lounging in our recliners. I've got a feeling our theaters may soon become deserted as we attempt to stem the tide of the novel coronavirus, aka COVID-19.
Below are the empty shelves where soup and pasta are found in my local neighborhood Walmart. Yesterday, folks swarmed the grocery and big box stores to stock up on food. Toilet paper and bottled water was already being hoarded over a week ago. Hand sanitizer and bleach wipes disappeared before the TP. With schools closed for at least two weeks straight (spring break was last week), and no large crowds allowed, folks are still being diagnosed with the virus. The federal and/or state governments have already started shuttering restaurants and bars in some places. Malls and churches, too. That may soon be our fate here in Texas if we want to stem the tide of infection and "flatten the curve".
