FIRE!

Many a day I curse social media and most news outlets because they're either slanted or downright mean. However, last week I was happy to have them because it kept me abreast of a 400 acre grass fire not too terribly far from our house at the lake.

In the pic above, the red dot is just east of the fire, while the brown dot is our lake house. Thankfully for us, the wind wasn't blowing the fire in our direction. I called our older daughter, who had gone up to the lake house to host a birthday party for her old college roomie that weekend. She was clueless. Hadn't heard sirens, or seen smoke. No knowledge of the sheriff's department evacuating homeowners in the development just west of ours. So I was the town crier from afar.

The middle picture is kinda humorous, some golfers playing through one of the courses where we live but stopping to take some pics, too. Praise God, firefighters rallied from all around the lake, including air support out of Austin as well as the forest service, and they were able to contain it fully by the next day. Pictures of the aftermath are sobering, the damage done to local flora and fauna. Hopefully folks will be more careful since we're in the midst of our annual summer drought and all it takes is a spark to set the dry grass ablaze.
