Sophomore year, here she comes!

I was spoiled, having my baby chick back in the nest since March when her university classes went online. Today she flew the coop again, winging her way to South Carolina to kick off sophomore year next week. Her boyfriend has the pleasure of helping her lug all of her miscellaneous stored dorm room stuff into her third floor apartment on Saturday. She'll be busy the next couple days, shopping for basic stuff like bathmats and silverware to set up her living space. I hope she likes her two new senior apartment mates. She's a mature 19-year-old, so I'm sure it will be fine.

I've gotta admit I was sad seeing her go. Not like last year with the boo-hooing and anxiety about her getting settled so far from us. The couldn't set foot in her bedroom here in our house for a couple weeks because the thought of it just made me want to sit and cry some more. As soon as I got back home from dropping her at the airport this morning, I was already in her bedroom and bath, sprucing up in advance of our cleaning lady coming tomorrow. Alas, the push/pull of being an empty nester. You raise them to go out and take care of business, but you're kinda blue that they don't need you anymore like they used to. Above all else, I believe God loves my baby waaaaay more than I ever could and is steering her ship, the independent minded, strong willed young woman He sent us almost two decades ago. I'm going to trust in His will and see where it takes her for the 2021-22 school year!
